Spanish Independence Day

This week we have a 4-day weekend in Madrid, and as per usual I have some cleaning projects planned. May 1st is Labour Day in Europe and a holiday for all of Spain while the 2nd is a holiday for Madrid only, which marks the bicentennial celebration of the uprising of the people of Madrid against Napleon. The local TV station is going to broadcast a series about it beginning tomorrow night. I'm not a TV addict, but I'm really excited about seeing this programme. This painting by Goya (copied from Wikipedia) is one that I always think of when I think of the 2nd of May though this particular painting depicts what happened on the 3rd. I've read that it was widely thought that Goya sympathized with the French. I do know that he died in France. Whatever. This is almost a photograph rather than a painting.

Not looking

Sung to the tune of Amy Winehouse's 'Rehab': I tried to get Zara to go to the vet's, but she said, 'No, no, no!'

Actually this is Zara the day after we went to the vet's to have her first professional bath, and for me to remember how clean she once was. LOL. Besides, it was the last day that we got to go to the park to have a walkabout, because that afternoon it started raining and continues to do so although it isn't raining at the moment. I'm not complaining about the rain since we need it. It's just that Zara won't go out if it's raining and I don't like getting muddy from the park so we walk around the streets - as much as she will in the rain. She had one of her back legs operated on last year, and not too long ago I had to take her back to the vet's when she started limping again. Luckily now she seems to be okay, but I really have to be careful with her. That's why I took her to be bathed and didn't do it at home. Also, I don't want to stop up my newly-unstopped bathtub. I 'furminated' (from Furminator, which is a special tool that takes excess hair off dogs, cats, horses) her yesterday. Not too much came off as they'd done a pretty good job at the vet's.

As always I'm going over to Post Secret to see if Frank has posted any new secrets. Hope everyone has a good week.

The Right to Bare Arms

It's been a while since I've composed a blog about anything. These past couple of weeks have been busy ones, and I've only been on 'a ratos' a few minutes at a time. Nothing much has happened in my life though I'm going to write about something that almost did, and hopefully explain the title of this blog.

Last Saturday  I went food shopping at one of the supermarkets near my house that opens on Saturday afternoon. As soon as I entered I realised that there was something wrong, especially since one of the workers started putting the shutters down as if the shop wasn't quite open. What had happened is that they'd just been robbed and apparently the thief had left only seconds before I arrived, not that I saw anyone suspicious or anything. The police arrived almost immediately and from what I heard the thief had a black pistol, got away with not too much money (about 150 euros) and the poor shop girl wasn't sure if the thief was Spanish or not, which was logical because she was very upset. Wouldn't you be if someone were threatening you with a pistol that could have been a toy but you wouldn't really want to chance that it wasn't?  Anyway, I was surprised that we weren't asked to leave at least while the police were there. I did my shopping as quickly as possible and left. With all the unexpected excitement, I forgot one of the things I'd gone for, so I went out again this time to a multi-product shop.

Spain is nothing like the United States where lots of people have guns. I suppose if someone is a hunter then that person has permission to have a rifle.  I don't know any hunters though because I sure don't know anyone except the police (and some bad guys) who have weapons. In other words I don't know anyone personally who has permission to have a weapon be it pistol or elephant gun. Being permitted to bear arms is not part of the Spanish Constitution. I don't know what the spell check will say about the title of this post but the right to bare arms is something everyone can enjoy even if it's not specified in a Constitution.

Calling All Kentuckians and Others

Got this off Lanie's page - one of many that I hadn't heard.

Ghost Sex

A professor at the University of Kentucky was giving a lecture on the supernatural.

To get a feel for his audience, he asks, 'How many people here believe in ghosts?'

About 90 students raise their hands.

'Well, that's a good start. Out of those of you who believe in ghosts, do any of you think you have seen a ghost?'

About 40 students raise their hands.

'That's really good. I'm really glad that you take this seriously. Has anyone here ever talked to a ghost?'

About 15 students raise their hands.

'Has anyone ever touched a ghost?'

Three students raise their hands.

'That's fantastic. Now let me ask you one question further...
Have any of you ever made love to a ghost?'

Way in the back, Bubba raises his hand.

The professor takes off his glasses, and says 'Son, all the years I've been giving this lecture, no one has ever claimed to have made love to a ghost. You've got to come up here and tell us about your experience.'

The big redneck student replied with a nod and a grin, and began to make his way up to the podium. When he reached the front of the room, the professor asks, 'So, Bubba, tell us what's it like to have sex with a ghost?'

Bubba replied, 'Shiiiiiiit!! From way back there I thought you said 'Goats'!
