Re: Yahoo News

Yes, I know I posted a link to an article a couple of hours ago about the woes of Yahoo. Sorry, but it stretched my page out so I deleted it. Who knows perhaps it was Yahoo's revenge on me for saying Yahoo Mail is my junk mail address. The article I refer to is one from CNET, which is under the title: 'At Yahoo, a need to hit refresh' and continues saying 'if Yahoo could be placed on a psychiatrist's couch, the Internet giant would be told it was suffering from an identity crisis' and other such truths about the once great Yahoo. Gone are the days when none of us were ashamed to shout out Ya - hoo! Now it's Ya - hell! as Deb has so recently commented. Sorry guys, your comments went down the drain too. Ciao, ciao.

RIAA Declares Using Brain to Remember Songs is Criminal Copyright Infringement (satire)

Monday, December 31, 2007 by: Mike Adams

(NewsTarget Satire) On the heels of the RIAA's recent decision to criminalize consumers who rip songs from albums they've purchased to their computers (or iPods), the association has now gone one step further and declared that "remembering songs" using your brain is criminal copyright infringement. "The brain is a recording device," explained RIAA president Cary Sherman. "The act of listening is an unauthorized act of copying music to that recording device, and the act of recalling or remembering a song is unauthorized playback."

Brenda speaking:
In one of my recent posts, I made mention of a song playing in my 'standalone brain'. The above excerpt is taken from the humour section of newstarget.com -  another of my favourite sites. After taking their 'gullibility test', I now know why lots of people are vegetarians. I scored in the top 5% as being a  'free thinker', but didn't know that beef for human consumption is regularly fed such delicacies as chicken poop. When we raised livestock, especially pigs, we sometimes gave them what was called 'slop' nasty-looking stuff sans any type of poop. Beef - it's not what's for dinner!

Glad I had some help today for my 'weekly blog' as I faithfully posted something (from my standalone brain) EVERY DAY during the 'Multiply Appreciation Week', and no I'm not expecting a prize or a pat on the back for doing so. I'm not expecting a kick in the butt either. I've learned, as I'm sure you have, that life's too short not to let people know how much they're liked and appreciated and always remembered. Have a good week all! I'm off to Post Secret.

Rest in Peace, Angel

Kath, better known as angelcakes, has been released from her suffering. She gave much more than she received as all of her friends will attest. She will be missed every day. We love you our earthly angel but you know that. So that my friends and family know exactly who Kath was, please click on her photo, which is the only one that I have showing in my box of contacts. Kath is one of my friends from 360 who also has a page on multiply. If you have a moment, go look at her page and you'll see what made her so special.

Happy Kings' Day

This fruity looking ring cake called 'roscon de reyes' is something that you'll see people consuming along with thick, rich Spanish hot chocolate at this time of year. Apparently it's a treat dating back to Roman times (though the recipe is different) when a bean was hidden inside the cake and the lucky person finding the bean was 'king for the day'. That's something else which has also changed. The prize inside the cake is now a plastic figurine and the unlucky person finding the prize has to pay for the roscon. If you can guess how much this particular roscon cost, you can pay for it. Deal?

Yesterday morning while I was thinking of having roscon, the doorbell rings and it's not the Avon lady but the President of the building informing me that part of the wall that belongs to the adjoining building had fallen during the night just as we had predicted it would. They had, under threat of a fine, supposedly repaired the wall in question. In reality, they had just slapped some cement on and painted over it. Anyway as I'm responsible for all documents past and present, I had to locate anything pretaining to the building next door because I had no idea what I might have to produce in a nanosecond. To make a long story short and with the President shouting at the person she's talking to at our local police station, she's told that she has to call the emergency number, which she does. They, in turn, send the fire brigade and they come barreling up the street, sirens going. About five or six firemen enter and one of them has a pick or an ax which they use to finish the job that the rain during the night and a botched job on the wall had done. So now we've got a mess on OUR patio, but the firemen arriving did get a rise out of the people next door. They, of course, thought it was a fire and two of them, who own an apartment in my building, came running over, one of them wearing a robe, but that's something normal here. After the report from the fire brigade they will have to repair that wall once and for all. What these people don't want to recognise is that the poor condition of their building is a danger for everyone, themselves included. On Wednesday some brick from a building in the centre of Madrid fell on a woman visiting from Valencia and killed her. The ironic thing about this particular incident is the building where the accident happened is owned by one of the big insurance companies here.

I'm going to take myself and my roscon over to Post Secret to see what's new. Hope everybody has a good safe week so it's so long for now.

Recipe for a new year - literally!

                                              HOT FUDGE PUDDING CAKE

1 cup plain flour                                               2 tablespoons shortening,
                                                                                melted
2 teaspoons baking powder                               1 cup chopped walnuts
                                                                            (I omit nuts,usually)
3/4 cup sugar                                                   1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 teaspoon salt                                              4 tablespoons cocoa
2 tablespoons cocoa                                          1 1/2 cups hot water
     1/2 cup milk

Sift first 5 ingredients together. Stir in milk and shortening. Mix until smooth then add nuts. Spread in greased 8 x 8 inch or 9 x 9 inch pan. Sprinkle with combined brown sugar and cocoa. Pour hot water over the batter. Bake at 350 ยบ F for about 40 minutes. Turn out while hot. Serve with whipped cream (if desired).

A couple of summers ago we were having lunch at a Cracker Barrel, and my niece, Melissa, asked for a dessert that is similar to this recipe. As you can see it's really easy to make and it has lots of chocolate sauce - a chocolate lover's dream come true.

Hope everybody had a good New Year's Eve. Ours was sad as one of my friends' father died on the 30th - just two days before she was going home for a visit. Later on this month is her parents' 60th anniversary. They were hoping he would make it until then. He had Altzeimer's and was, along with the family, suffering greatly. Now he can rest in peace.

May all of you find peace, health and happiness in the coming days.
