On Friday afternoon I only had one class, so I came home directly. Right outside the Music School around the corner from my house were two young girls sitting in the street vomiting their guts out. I swear they looked to be about 14 (more or less the size of some of my students). Then I saw their 2-litre bottle of Coke and red wine, a mixture popular among young people which they call 'calimocho' - a cheap drink for them. I'd be embarrassed and upset if I saw one of my students in that situation. Young people usually get together in big groups to drink, so I was surprised to see only two. Who knows? They could have been practising for a group session. One of my friends on facebook was questioning the need to use something like 'bath salts' to have a good time. I don't think I would be able to drink something like calimocho either and can't remember the last time I drank Coke or any soft drink.
Yesterday, I made some pisto. That's a vegetable dish and the recipe is in my file. You can eat it hot, cold with anything you like. I like it as a sauce over pasta, which is probably what I'll have for lunch tomorrow. I also made some ice-cream from a recipe I got off the internet some time back. The texture was divine, but it was too sweet. I added the rest of the cream I had to help that. If I make this recipe again I'll put in half the quantity of condensed milk called for. Hopefully adding some fruit will make it less sweet. Although it's supposed to be cinnamon, it tastes like coconut to me.
One thing that's inspired me this weekend is the weather. Yesterday was the day that we could officially put away our jackets and things according to the saying. It was the 40th of May. It has been chilly
enough in the early mornings to put on a light jacket. I'm not fooled though. It'll soon be hot enough to fry an egg outside.I'm sharing a recent photo of Aubrey with her daddy. She and her big sis, Lilly, have got the prettiest eyes ever. Hope everyone has a good week.
A very cute picture of Aubrey and as usual, I enjoyed a glimpse into everyday life in Madrid. Thanks for sharing. -Mimi xx
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I have tasted some unusual and awful things in my lifetime, during my travels, but the thought of putting calimocho to my lips would make me want to throw up.

Love the photo. She is adorable and agree, beautiful eyes. The thought of calimocho turns my stomach....lol.
ReplyDeleteGlad the bullfightings over, and concerts must be much better than crowds of people ... especially if their vomiting in the gutter outside your home!!
ReplyDeletePlease send us some of your sun ... we really need it!! Oh and the veggie sauce sounds good on pasta!
I know from experience that pisto is great on pasta. I expect you to make it for me when you visit! The weather here has been nice but today the heat is back..around 89 and more humid..I hate humid weather!!! I have a recipe for homemade ice cream I made when the kids were little...but I put less sugar in because it was too sweet even for me...maybe we can make it also....take care. We will see you soon........
ReplyDeleteLove Pisto...............but the thought of calimocho makes me want to vomit. I complain about the constant rain but the constant extreme heat must be even worse, I wish I could send you some of our rain. I don't know how you cope with the bullfighting, I don't think I could so I'm glad for you that its over fo0r another year.
ReplyDeleteAnd most importantly................what a totally beautiful picture,
