Bring Back July

Because July for once had lovely weather. It may have been hot during the day, but I managed to keep the sun out during the hottest part of the day so that it stayed relatively cool inside. The nights were wonderful for sleeping or for just being outside. I actually slept under the bedclothes and not on top of them. The last nice day was the 27th when I got a bit cold out in the morning - the 28th, which was my youngest sister's birthday, was unbearably hot. Yesterday it rained in my open windows not once but twice. This is not entirely true, because the first time the water came from somewhere upstairs. I thought it could be because the roof is being repaired, but found out this morning that that wasn't the case. Luckily I was at home both times. Oh, wait a minute it did rain twice yesterday. The first time was after 10 p.m. when I went out with Zara. The drops were huge, but they didn't last long. A man, who was getting wet too, said that it was a good time to be out with the dog.

We don't usually have rain in Madrid in August or in summer for that matter. If it rains at all, it's usually a big storm with the works at the beginning of July. I remember one particular storm that caught us in the outdoor restaurant of a swimming pool, plates and food started flying, and I got under the table. No, the northern part of the country usually gets the rain like the Basque Country that had 19 days of rain in July, which was a record. I suppose the rain yesterday was Zara's fault. I took her to have a bath and be groomed on Friday. Still, we can be thankful that it's not so humid in Madrid as it is in some places. I've just read that all 50 states have had higher than normal temps this summer.

August has quite a few birthdays. Today is one of my nephews' birthday and Friday is a niece's; then one of my sisters' is next week. My sister has given herself an extra special birthday present. They're going to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah tomorrow. That's where some of Vick's dogs are you know. I'm sure they'll have a wonderful time, and I'm sure my brother-in-law will have treats. One of their dogs was in their Christmas family photo and guess who she was standing next to and looking up at? He's definitely the Pied Piper of cats and dogs.

Hope everyone can find a nice cool spot like Zara. Things could always be worse. It seems that Somalia is about to become an empty space in Africa.

  1. "July for once had lovely weather."
    Don't think to many around the USA are going to agree cause of the 105degree and humidity which is labeled oppressive..and certainly is. Most of the country was locked into this weather where even nights were hot and it has been hard to find even a breath of air stirring.
    Good ot know not every place has been this way.

  2. Good to hear that July was tolerable somewhere. I just heard that it was the hottest July in the US recorded history.

    It's been a while since we had rain, good that you had rain in Spain. The look on Zara's face shows that she knows that you are blaming her. :-}

  3. Yes, this is the kind of weather we usually have in July with high temps even at night. The only good thing is that we have dry heat. I can't stand humidity. I'd really love to spend the whole summer in the mountains.

  8. Love that photo of Zara, she is adorable. July was a hot and humid one and it seems like August will be the seem. Thank goodness for the air conditioner or I don't know how I would make it through. I don't mind the heat it's the humid I don't like.

  9. That's why I'm glad Madrid isn't usually humid. Humidity is awful! It can be 72º F and feel like 90º!

  11. There isn't actually any birthday month in my family or along relatives but I know it could be if it happens that many people have born in a particular month.
    When it comes to summer, I'm actually looking forward to fall because it's been hell of a hot summer with too little rain and too humid days. It'd be fine if we'd had it around 20-25'c but it's mostly been hanging around 30'c and even more and it's been humid which's made it more uncomfy.
    I'm personally happy that I was at work for the whole July. We have a great air conditioning system there at the office. I'm now on vacation and it's been cooling down a little... Gee, a couple of days with 18'c feel even chilly! Am I still a Finn? Thee, I hope so!

  13. Zara is so cute! I know what you mean about August birthdays. My father-in-law was born on the 1st, my sister was born on the 7th, mine is on the 14th, my nephew's is the 23rd and my son's is the 26th. I also have friends born on the 10th and 22nd.
    The animal sanctuary sounds like a wonderful place to visit.
    I hope the weather gets better for you. Here in California's Central Valley, we have been lucky for the past couple of years. There have been relatively few 100°F+ days. We had a lot more hot days when I was a kid. As they say, well at least it is a 'dry heat'.
