And feeling lazy too after my 8-hour stint helping out at a crafts fair for a group that I used to be a member of and my friend Chris is still the president of. For this occasion I always make something sweet and usually I make brownies. This year I decided on a cake and decorated it up for Christmas. I used Mary's (marythatsme) Grandmother's Buttermilk Pound Cake recipe for this. I'd originally tried for an angel food cake, but didn't have any cream of tartar for which I'd read on numerous sites that there is no good substitute for. Now I know this is true, so next year I shall be making the brownies I'm famous for - those, touching wood, turn out always the same. I can't say the angel food cake turned into a devil's food one, because those are divine desserts despite their name. Inedible, rubbery, heavy, disgusting are some of the adjectives I'd use to describe what was supposed to be a delicious light cake.If you're confused about the cakes, Mary's cake turned out lovely though we really didn't have time to sample it adequately. The fair was that busy! I can't believe how many people attended - very few periods when nobody was looking around. One young man even came back to buy some more things, so I know he'll return next year. This is certainly encouraging given the present economic situation. There were some lovely things and some of them were a bit overpriced I thought. I got quite a few little gifts though and a new cutting board for me, which was the most expensive item I bought. I've been thinking about getting a new board for quite a while. The photo I've included doesn't do it justice. The wood has been worked so artistically.
Anyway, it's busy, busy time for me now as I've started making my famous buckeyes (peanut butter balls). I'm disappointed with the chocolate I've chosen to coat the balls. No matter how long I melt the chocolate, little bits refuse to be melted so there are little lumps. Oh well, extra chocolate I suppose. I won't repeat with this particular brand even though the taste is the same. In addition, I have two Christmas meals this week and work, of course. I'm sure everybody else is doing more than usual too. Hope it's a good week for all.
I forgot to mention that I was so tired when I got up this morning that I forgot to put coffee in the little cup on my coffee machine and got a nice cup of hot water. LOL
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that the recipe you got from Mary turned out good, I’m sure the cake was enjoyed by many. Thank you for explaining the photo, I could not figure out what it was lol. Nice cutting board; love the detail on it. Don’t worry about the extra chocolate on the peanut butter balls, no one will complain. Hope you enjoyed your hot cup of water lol. I have done that myself :]
