These are the stones that I've collected for one of my sisters who's a collector of such things. They've all come from the parks near my house because our river beach hasn't been constructed yet (Madrid without construction work would surely be paradise). The stones that Loretta recently collected from the rock pool are nicer though I think one of these 'gems' is special - the one that's pinkish. I found this particular one in the Fuente del Berro Park, which has to be the nicest park in this area. I think I've mentioned before that most parks once belonged to royalty and the rich. As a matter of fact, Fuente del Berro was once owned by a Dutch family I believe. Anyway, this pink stone is heart-shaped, not perfect but it does resemble a heart.Ironically the other day I was reading an article about collecting. Actually it was about things that we waste money on and one of them was adding to our owl collection. Well, I have such a collection but have no intention of adding more to it. I've finally got rid of the 'Magic Chef', Chinese bowls and various bibelots (can't understand why the spell checker on here underlines the word bibelot if Dean Koontz uses it all the time). I cringe every time somebody gives me a new dust collector (bibelot), and I have some that I know I'll eventually get rid of. I'd much rather receive a scarf, a piece of jewellery or something edible. How about you?
It's a good thing that I've given away some things because I just found out this past week that our column of the building needs reinforcing so they'll be knocking down a wall in my flat and restructuring it any time now. One of my friends has found out that her sister has a brain tumour and has to go to England, so I'll be looking after her dog plus I'll be cat-sitting in August. I've learnt my lesson - no more talking about uneventful weeks! I only pray that Shona comes through her treatment with a clean bill of health.
Although I have no intention of using it, I had to copy one of the secrets from Post Secret today. It's only one of the sweetest secrets I've read in a long time. I was an odd number again on the visitor counter: 251,725,493.
Hope everybody has a good week. I know some are getting ready for their holidays. I'll be doing a countdown too soon.
HEY, KNOCKING DOWN A WALL.I HOPE THAT IS NOT ON THE OUTSIDE. I SURE KNOW ABOUT COLLECTIBLES. I HAVE BOXED UP MY PORCELAIN DOLLS ALL GIVEN TO ME BY MY GRANDMOTHER. THEY WERE JUST A TEASE FOR NESS. I HAVE BIBELOTS STILL PACKED FROM YEARS AGO. MY DAUGHTER HAS PLANNED ALL SUMMER TO GO THROUGH THESE THINGS TO SEE WHAT SHE WANTS BUT IT NEVER SEEMS TO HAPPEN. I HAVE PROMISED MYSELF NOT TO GATHER ANYTHING ELSE THAT WILL GROW DUST. I HAVE BEEN DOING A LOT TO CLEAR OUT USELESS OBJECTS BUT NOT ENOUGH. ABOUT THE PET SITTING. OH NO WEEK AFTER NEXT MY DAUGHTER WANTS ME TO SIT HER CHIHUAHUA FOR 4 DAYS. I BET MY CAT WILL BE THE ONE WHO WILL BE THE PROBLEM. LOL I WISH YOU A GOOD WEEK. TAKE CARE AND HUGS
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the bibelots! I have too many and don't need anymore!! People are sweet to get things for you that they know you enjoy (cats & frogs for me), but there is only so much room!!! I've tried to put a stop to most of it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the pet sitting. I hope your friend's sister will come through her treatment okay. Keep us posted.
Thanks for the update! Hugs.
Ah Brenda, both my husband and I are collectors, in fact we met through collecting Boy Scout shoulder patches many years ago. Now the collections have reached overflow proportions and we're being pushed nearly out of the house! I find that I don't really want to collect anything these days and have been getting rid of things slowly but surely. This past week I've been working on painting the bedroom and it's full to the rafters with various things (clothing too) that now overwhelm me. I'm on hefty bag #3 now with 2 to donate to charity in addition to the trash bags. I know that something will catch my eye again, though, and I'll be off in another collecting direction, it seems like it's so ingrained in my psyche that it will come back another time.
ReplyDeleteI do love the river rocks, my daughter collects sea glass from the beach...but for her it's all about the long walks at water's edge to find it. :)
I like your collection of rocks for your sister, particularly the pink heart. I love unusual stones and have a collection of arrowheads that I've kept since childhood. My grand-baby, Robin, has just this summer found a shark's tooth at the beach (I never have been able to) and last week found a geode (something else I've never managed to find) She has either a good eye for detail or a natural gift of some kind! I've recently decided it was time for several of my collections to bite the dust. My Santa Clauses were getting out of hand and really I imagine I'll be downsizing in square footage as I age not up-sizing! Good luck babysitting your daughter's chi, and will remember Shona in prayer.
